Léonie Maes is the Research Assistant to the Director of the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS), Bruges, Belgium. Her research interests include the relationship between the United Nations and regional organisations — specifically the African Union, the European Union and the League of Arab States, and the contribution of regional organisations to the maintenance of international peace and security.
