Marjo Vierros is an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the UNU Institute of Advanced Studies and its Traditional Knowledge Initiative. In this capacity she developed and coordinates the Global Marine Governance Project, which does targeted research and capacity building on a variety of topics related to the oceans and coasts, including marine management and coastal communities, traditional and local knowledge, as well as global oceans management and governance topics at the UN. Marjo has degrees in biology, oceanography and marine biology. During her career she has worked for the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as for research, conservation and UN organizations in several countries.
