Romain Pirard is a doctor in environmental economics who specialised on the theme of tropical forests. He has worked at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and as a consultant for the World Bank, as well as for French research institutions. He joined the Institut du développement durable et des relations internationales (IDDRI) in 2008 to work on REDD+ and economic instruments for forest management, such as payments for environmental services. His current research topics include market-based instruments for the environment, economic assessments, and the links between agriculture and deforestation.
